Why hygienist visits matter
Brushing and flossing cannot remove hardened tartar (calculus) that builds up along and below the gum line. This tartar harbours bacteria that cause gum disease — the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. A hygienist removes what your toothbrush cannot reach.
At Tower Dental, hygienist appointments include ultrasonic scaling to remove tartar, hand scaling for precision, polishing to remove surface stains, and personalised advice on brushing technique and interdental cleaning. Most patients leave with noticeably cleaner, smoother teeth.
What to expect
A 30-minute appointment. The hygienist uses an ultrasonic scaler (high-frequency vibrations that break up tartar painlessly) followed by hand instruments for detailed work. Your teeth are then polished with a prophylaxis paste. Sensitivity is minimal — if you have particularly sensitive areas, we can apply a numbing gel before starting.
