About Dr Thomas Symm

Dr Thomas Symm brings a rare combination of clinical depth, genuine warmth, and an unwavering commitment to putting patients first — values that sit at the very heart of everything we do at Tower Dental. Thomas qualified with his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Central Lancashire, but his academic journey goes further than most. He holds a Master's degree in Psychology — and it shows. He has an instinctive ability to understand how patients think and feel, to put anxious minds at ease, and to build the kind of trust that turns a nervous first appointment into a long-term relationship.

With over six years of clinical experience — including foundation training and a long-standing associate role at Bupa Dental Care — Thomas has built his career in demanding, high-volume NHS environments where clinical excellence, calm under pressure, and genuine compassion are non-negotiable. He takes particular pride in saving teeth others might give up on, using advanced restorative techniques to achieve outcomes that make a real difference to patients' lives.

Thomas has a special interest in implant dentistry and is passionate about restoring not just smiles, but confidence — helping patients who have lost teeth reclaim the ability to eat, speak, and laugh without a second thought.

Away from the chair, Thomas is quietly determined and refreshingly grounded. If you are looking for a dentist who will truly listen, take time to understand your concerns, and treat you as an individual rather than an appointment slot — you will be in excellent hands with Dr Symm.

Clinical focus

Dr Symm's day-to-day clinical work centres on three areas:

  • Implant dentistry — single-tooth implants, multiple implants and implant-supported restorations. Tower places Straumann and Nobel Biocare systems.
  • Restorative workcrowns, bridges and complex rebuild cases where teeth have been worn, broken or extensively restored.
  • Care for nervous patients — an unhurried, options-led approach with full explanation at each step. See our nervous patients page.

Alongside this special-interest work, Dr Symm provides routine general dentistry — examinations, fillings, hygiene referrals, extractions — for patients who choose him as their regular dentist.

How an implant case runs at Tower Dental

  1. Consultation (£40, redeemable). Full clinical assessment, X-rays, intra-oral scan, photographs. We discuss your options — implant vs bridge vs denture — and confirm whether implants are clinically appropriate for your case.
  2. Diagnostics. Where bone volume is borderline or anatomy is complex, a CBCT (3D) scan is taken to plan the implant position to the millimetre.
  3. Written treatment plan and fixed quote. No surprises — you receive a written plan with every cost listed before any treatment is booked. 0% finance over 6 or 10 months is available, subject to status.
  4. Implant placement. A single appointment, typically under local anaesthetic. Most patients describe it as more comfortable than a standard tooth extraction.
  5. Healing period. Typically 3–4 months for the implant to integrate with the bone (osseointegration). A temporary tooth can be provided where the implant is in an aesthetic zone.
  6. Crown fitting. Once integration is confirmed, the final porcelain crown is designed and fitted. Colour and shape are matched to neighbouring teeth.
  7. Review and aftercare. A post-treatment review and lifetime hygiene support are included. See our guarantees and aftercare page for the full guarantee terms.

What to expect at your first appointment

First appointments at Tower are intentionally unhurried. You will:

  • Spend the first few minutes talking through what brought you in and what you would like to achieve, before any clinical examination starts.
  • Have a full mouth examination, including the teeth, gums, soft tissues and bite. Photographs and X-rays are taken where clinically indicated.
  • Receive a clear explanation of what was found, with images where helpful, and a written treatment plan with itemised costs.
  • Have time to ask questions and take the plan away to consider. No treatment is started at the first visit unless you choose to.

If you are particularly anxious about dental appointments, please tell us when you book. We can extend the appointment length, offer a tour of the surgery first, and pace the visit to suit you. Sedation options are available if needed.
