Are Veneers
Worth It?

For the right patient, yes. Porcelain veneers deliver the most transformative, longest-lasting cosmetic result available. But they are permanent and not right for everyone.

What veneers can do

Porcelain veneers can simultaneously change the colour, shape, size and alignment of your teeth. They mask severe discolouration that whitening cannot fix. They close gaps, even out asymmetry, and create uniform proportions. A full set of veneers (typically 6–10 teeth) can transform a smile more dramatically than any other single treatment.

They last 10–15 years with proper care. They resist staining better than natural enamel or composite bonding. And when done well, they are completely indistinguishable from natural teeth.

What to consider first

Veneers require removing a thin layer of enamel from the front of each tooth — this is permanent and irreversible. Once you have veneers, you will always need veneers or crowns on those teeth. For patients with healthy, well-aligned teeth who only want a colour change, professional whitening (from £333) achieves the result without any permanent alteration.

Cost is also a factor. At £471 per tooth (Tower Dental pricing), a set of 6 veneers costs £2,826. Composite bonding achieves a similar (though less durable) result for £1,998. The right choice depends on your goals, your budget, and how long you want the result to last.

Who should get veneers?

Ideal veneer candidates have: teeth with significant cosmetic issues (severe staining, chips, gaps, uneven sizes), realistic expectations about the result, good oral health (no untreated gum disease or decay), a commitment to maintaining them (avoiding biting hard objects, wearing a night guard if they grind), and the budget for a quality result.

The worst reason to get veneers is pressure — from social media, from a partner, or from a dentist who pushes the most expensive option. At Tower Dental, your dentist will tell you if bonding or whitening would achieve your goal at a lower cost. The consultation is where you get honest advice.
