Inside Tower Dental Blackpool

A guided look at our practice, our equipment, and what to expect on your first visit. Designed so anxious or first-time patients know exactly what they're walking into.

Arriving at the practice

Tower Dental occupies a Victorian terraced building on Devonshire Road in North Blackpool, between Bispham Village and the North Shore. The building has a clear Tower Dental sign at the front, with a small front step and an accessible door. Free on-street parking is available directly outside, with additional spaces on adjoining streets if the front spaces are taken. The Bispham tram stop (Blackpool Tramway, Fleetwood line) is a 5-minute walk; the 1, 1A, and 4 buses stop within 100 metres of the practice.

You'll be greeted at the reception desk, asked to confirm your details and (if it's your first visit) given a short medical history form. The waiting area has comfortable seating, a small reading area, free WiFi (network: TowerDental), and complimentary tea and coffee. We aim to call patients through within 5 minutes of their appointment time.

The treatment surgeries

We have four treatment rooms across the ground and first floors. Each surgery is equipped with:

  • Digital intra-oral X-ray sensor — produces images on screen within 2 seconds, with up to 90% lower radiation dose than older film X-rays
  • Intra-oral camera — lets you see exactly what we see inside your mouth on a screen, in real time
  • iTero digital scanner — for Invisalign and crown impressions, replacing messy putty impressions with a 5-minute digital scan
  • Adjustable LED operating lights — modern dental lights that don't dazzle, with shadow-free illumination of the treatment field
  • Comfortable, fully reclining chair with ergonomic neck support; pillows and blankets available on request
  • Ceiling-mounted television in the larger surgery for nervous patients who'd prefer to watch something during longer treatments
  • Air filtration meeting all post-COVID UK dental cross-contamination requirements

Sterilisation and infection control

Behind the scenes, we have a dedicated decontamination room with an on-site Class B autoclave — the highest standard available in UK dental practice. Every reusable instrument is cleaned, ultrasonically washed, sealed in single-use sterilisation pouches, and run through the Class B cycle (134°C steam under pressure) before reuse. Single-use items (needles, gloves, masks, suction tips, certain burs) are disposed of after each patient. We are inspected by the Care Quality Commission and were last rated CQC compliant across all 5 standards.

Our digital workflow

We are a fully digital practice. That means:

  • Digital records — your treatment notes, X-rays, photos and treatment plans are stored in an encrypted, GDPR-compliant patient management system. We use Dentally as our practice management software.
  • Digital X-rays — instant, lower radiation, easier to share for referrals or insurance claims
  • Digital impressions — using the iTero scanner, we replace traditional putty impressions for Invisalign, crowns, and most restorative work
  • Digital smile preview — for cosmetic patients, we can show you a 3D simulation of your potential outcome before you commit to treatment
  • Email-based treatment plans — written plans and quotes go to your email after every consultation, so you have a permanent record
  • SMS appointment reminders — at 7 days and 24 hours before your appointment

For nervous patients

If you've avoided the dentist for a long time or have had bad experiences before, please tell us before your visit. We adjust the experience accordingly:

  • We allocate longer appointment slots so nothing is rushed
  • We use the "tell, show, do" technique — explaining each step before doing it
  • We agree a stop signal (usually raising a hand) so you can pause treatment whenever you need to
  • We offer noise-cancelling headphones and a choice of music if the sound bothers you
  • We can use topical numbing gel before any local anaesthetic injection — most patients say they don't even feel the injection
  • For more involved treatment, we offer conscious oral or IV sedation

Around 1 in 4 of our patients describe themselves as "very nervous" of dental treatment. We treat all of them — and most return year after year for routine care after their first successful experience.

Visiting in person

You're welcome to drop in during practice hours to have a look around before booking your first appointment. We'll show you the reception area and (if a surgery is free) one of the treatment rooms, so you can see the environment for yourself. There's no pressure to book, and no charge for a quick walk-through.
