Private Dentist vs NHS Dentist
NHS and private dentistry both deliver clinically safe care from the same GDC-registered profession. The differences sit in appointment time, material choice, the breadth of treatment available, and the level of cosmetic refinement. Tower Dental is fully private; this page exists to help you make an informed decision rather than to disparage NHS care.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is private dentistry clinically better than NHS?
Not inherently. The same GDC-registered profession delivers both. What private buys you is more time per appointment, broader material and treatment choice, and earlier access. Clinical safety standards are identical and regulated by the GDC and CQC.
Can I keep my NHS dentist for routine care and use private for cosmetic?
Yes — many of our cosmetic patients see an NHS dentist for routine care and come to Tower Dental for treatment that is not available on the NHS (such as cosmetic bonding, whitening, veneers, implants, Invisalign).
How much does a private check-up cost at Tower Dental?
New patient examination is £79 and includes a comprehensive review with X-rays as needed. With our Adult Plan from £19.60/month, two examinations and two hygienist visits per year are included along with 15% off all treatment.
Do you accept patients who have not been to a dentist in years?
Absolutely — and many of our patients are exactly in that position. There is no judgement and we work at whatever pace you need. Sedation pathways are available where helpful.
Is private dentistry tax-deductible or covered by insurance?
It is not generally NHS-tax-deductible, but private dental insurance and corporate health plans (Bupa, Denplan, Simplyhealth, AXA) often cover or contribute to private treatment. Bring your policy details to consultation and we will help you understand what is covered.
What if I can not afford private treatment up front?
We offer 0% interest-free finance over 6 or 10 months on treatment plans. Subject to status. The plan membership also spreads routine care across the year for a predictable monthly cost.
Will my treatment be the same as on the NHS?
For routine examination and many treatments, yes — clinically. The differences are in the time taken, the materials chosen, and the cosmetic finish. For implants, advanced cosmetic work, and orthodontics, the scope of what is achievable is much greater privately.
How do I switch from NHS to private?
Just book an examination at Tower Dental. We do not need a referral. Bring any recent X-rays or treatment notes if you have them — otherwise we will start with a fresh comprehensive examination.
